SORIThe restorative justice programme that Rev Tony Davies is involved in, in Cardiff Prison – a voluntary programme for offenders that facilitates meetings between offenders and victims of crime, in order to reduce re-offending – we are waiting for more information on exactly how to get involved. Bible Society Bibles for Ghana AppealWe have a target of raising £1,000 by April; over £700 has already been raised around the Circuit; a Bible Quiz sheet will be produced for December and at least one further fund-raiser.
Mission PartnersThe Wales Synod has mission partners in Nepal, Allan and Andrea Smith; we aim to raise their profile, get people praying for them and supporting them – in October in our One World Week services you should be hearing about them, and we will also get something out to newsletter editors to introduce them to you.
Home4UThere has been a project working with asylum seekers at Trinity Church for a while now, and they have a house where asylum seekers can be accommodated – currently an Iranian and a Zimbabwean are being housed. The project needs £600 a month to keep it going. Could your church give from its Benevolent Fund towards this project?
Gift Card SchemeFailed asylum seekers have traditionally been given a £5 voucher per day for food while they wait to be sent home. However, asylum seekers from, for example Zimbabwe, are not sent home because it is acknowledged that they are in danger, and they continue to exist on these vouchers, in the form of £5 Tesco Gift Cards. They have no cash to get on a bus or let their children do anything that needs paying for. We want people who shop at Tesco to exchange £40 per month for £40 of gift cards, so that these people can have some cash and choose where to spend it. We seek a co-ordinator from each church who can find ten or more to join the scheme, and collect the gift cards and exchange them for cash once a month. A donation will be needed for start-up costs.
